How To Enable / Disable Nearby Sharing in Windows 10

Windows 10 includes Nearby Sharing, a feature that lets you send files, links, and other content wirelessly to nearby devices. This guide explains how to enable or disable it using the Settings app.

Using the Settings App

  • Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
  • Go to System > Shared experiences.
  • Under Share across devices, toggle the switch:
    • On: Enables Nearby Sharing.
    • Off: Disables Nearby Sharing.
  • You can also choose who can share or receive content:
    • Everyone nearby: Any nearby device can share.
    • My devices only: Only devices signed in with your Microsoft account.

Notes

  • Both devices must have Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi enabled.
  • Nearby Sharing works best when devices are within close range, such as the same room or office.
  • Files are transferred wirelessly, so speed depends on your connection type (Wi‑Fi is faster than Bluetooth).

Nearby Sharing in Windows 10 provides a simple way to exchange files and links between devices. By adjusting these settings, you can control when and how to use this feature for convenience and efficiency.
