The Network Stack (PXE Boot) option in BIOS/UEFI allows a computer to boot from a network server instead of a local drive. This guide explains how to enable or disable PXE Boot, when to use it, and why most users keep it disabled.
Enter BIOS/UEFI Setup
- Restart your computer.
- Press the BIOS/UEFI setup key during boot (commonly F2, DEL, ESC, or F10, depending on manufacturer).
Locate Network Stack Settings
- Navigate to Advanced, Boot, or System Configuration menus.
- Look for options such as Network Stack, PXE Boot, or LAN Boot.
Toggle the Setting
- Enable: Allows PXE boot. Useful for booting from a PXE server, remote OS installation, or recovery environments.
- Disable: Prevents PXE boot. Recommended for most users to speed up boot and avoid accidental network boot attempts.
Save & Exit
- Press F10 or select Save & Exit.
- Your system will reboot with the new setting applied.
Optional: Boot Menu Access
- Restart your computer and enter the boot menu.
- Select Network Boot / PXE Boot if enabled.
- Note: Secure Boot may need to be disabled for PXE boot to function.
