Managing Microsoft Store app updates gives you control over when apps receive new versions. You can choose to pause updates temporarily or let them install automatically.
Disable or Pause Automatic Updates
- Open the Microsoft Store.
- Go to Profile, then Store Settings.
- Toggle the App updates switch OFF.
- On Windows 11, updates can only be paused for 1–5 weeks. After that, they resume automatically.
Enable Automatic Updates
- Toggle the switch ON. Apps will update automatically whenever new versions are available.
Important Notes
- Windows 11 limitation: Permanent disabling of updates is no longer supported. You can only pause updates for up to five weeks.
- Manual updates: Even with automatic updates turned off, you can manually update apps by going to Downloads and selecting Check for updates.
Controlling app updates in the Microsoft Store helps you balance convenience with flexibility. Whether you prefer automatic updates or manual control, Windows 11 ensures your apps stay secure and up to date.
