Windows 11 now gives users more control over the taskbar, including where it appears and how large it looks.
With the latest preview update, you can change the taskbar position and size directly from Windows Settings.
How To Change Taskbar Position in Windows 11
With the KB5120998 Preview Update for Windows 11 version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.9278) released on August 27, 2026, Microsoft has finally introduced a feature everyone was asking for: changing the taskbar position & Size.
Open Settings (Windows Key + I), navigate to Personalization > Taskbar, and look under Taskbar behaviors. You will see the new Taskbar position option, where you can choose where the taskbar is placed on your screen: Bottom, Top, Left, or Right.
You can also use the Taskbar alignment setting to choose how your icons are positioned along the taskbar.
How To Change Taskbar Size in Windows 11
Under Taskbar behaviors. You will see also the new Taskbar size option, where you can switch between the default size and a small size, which adjusts both the taskbar and the icons.
If you prefer to keep the default taskbar size and only shrink the icons, you can use the Show small app icons setting. You can set this to Always, When taskbar is full, or Never.
How To Change Start Menu Size in Windows 11
You can also navigate to Personalization > Start, and change the start menu size. You can set this to Automatic, Small, or Large.

Note: If you don't see this option yet, make sure to go to Windows Update and check for updates. Don't forget to toggle on the option "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available."
With these new settings, Windows 11 users can customize the taskbar position and size without relying on third-party tools.
You can also adjust the taskbar alignment, app icon size, and Start menu size to better match your preferred layout.
