Windows 11 continues to evolve with new sharing features. This guide explains the Drag Here to Share tray, how it works, and how to turn it on or off.
What is the Drag Here to Share Tray?
Introduced with the May 28, 2025 KB5058499 (OS Build 26100.4202) update, Microsoft added a drag‑and‑drop Share UI. This tray‑like interface appears when you drag files or content, making it easier to quickly share items using Nearby Sharing or supported apps.
For users who prefer a cleaner desktop experience, Microsoft enabled the option to disable this tray starting with the December 1, 2025 KB5070311 (OS Build 26200.7309) update.
Steps to Enable or Disable Drag Here to Share Tray
1. Open Settings
- Press Windows Key + I to launch the Settings app.
2. Navigate to System Settings
- Go to System, then Nearby sharing.
3. Locate Drag Tray Option
- Under the Nearby sharing section, find the new option: Drag Tray.
- Toggle the switch On to enable the tray.
- Toggle the switch Off to disable it.
Notes
- If you don’t see the setting, ensure your system is updated to the latest build.
- This setting is gradually rolling out, so availability may vary by device and market.
- The Share tray option may not yet be available on all devices.
By adjusting this setting, you can customize your Windows 11 experience to match your workflow preferences.
Whether you value quick sharing or a cleaner interface, the Drag Here to Share tray gives you flexibility and control over your desktop environment.
