How To Enable / Disable Drag to Snap Layouts in Windows 11

Windows 11 offers powerful multitasking features to help organize your workspace. This guide explains the Drag to Snap Layouts option and how to turn it on or off.

What is Drag to Snap Layouts?

Snap Layouts were introduced with the initial release of Windows 11 in October 2021. The 22H2 update (Build 22621), released in September 2022, enhanced the feature by allowing users to drag a window to the top of the screen to instantly view available Snap Layouts. From there, multiple apps can be quickly arranged into predefined layouts without manually resizing or positioning them.

For users who prefer a simpler window management experience, Windows 11 provides an option to enable or disable Drag to Snap Layouts directly from Settings.

Steps to Enable or Disable Drag to Snap Layouts

1. Open Settings

  • Press Windows Key + I to launch the Settings app.

2. Navigate to Multitasking Settings

  • Go to System, then Multitasking.

3. Locate Snap Windows Options

  • Under Snap windows, expand the settings.

4. Enable or Disable Drag to Snap Layouts

  • Check the option Show snap layouts when I drag a window to the top of the screen to enable the feature.
  • Uncheck the option to disable it.

Note

Even if Drag to Snap Layouts is disabled, you can still access Snap Layouts by hovering over the maximize icon on a window.

By adjusting this setting, you can tailor Windows 11’s multitasking features to suit your workflow and preferences.

Whether you enjoy advanced window management or prefer a cleaner interface, Snap Layouts give you flexibility and control over your desktop environment.
